Project Overview

The goal -- propose, design, and create a robotically controlled puppet for a children's haunted maze -- combining past knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering, fabrication, programming, and artistic design, to create an animatronic robot.
Over the course of ten weeks the team will continually build, test, and change the design to fit the constraints and to get the best design possible. Since this is a maze for kids, the
design has to be "G-rated". Other constraints include fitting into an 8'x8' cross section (unless talked about prior to design build), all parts must be fabricated by the team (excluding internal electronics and exterior coverings), use at least two DC motors, only use a maximum of 120 V wall power and use less than a 10 A draw (batteries are allowed), and use audio and lighting as part of the design. Some materials are given but others may have to be purchased. Things given to us to use include Arduino and/or Rasperry Pi, small DC motors and servos, basic wiring components, small LED's, small speakers, scrap wood, other materials in the lab, and materials approved for purchase by the professor. If the lab does not see it as something that should be invested in, products will have to be purchased.
Through the design process, you will be able to follow the design week by week . After ten weeks of designing the final product, we will present the project to peers, professors, and the public.
